A Massive New Turn For The Record Books – The World’s Longest Wind Turbine Blade – The LM 88.4 P

According to its makers, a one-time Danish furniture company called Lunderskov Mobelfabrik (Lunderskov Furniture Factory), now better known as LM Wind, their new wind turbine blade, the LM 88.4 P, dwarves all its predecessors.

The blade will power an 8 megawatt wind turbine and at a length of 88.4 metres, has been designed and manufactured with sufficient quality and reliability to withstand 25 years of life offshore, in the harshest weather conditions and roughest seas.

Using three of these blades to create the full set needed for a single 8MW turbine, it is suggested they are capable of catching enough power to take care of the energy needs of a town of 10,000 people.

the three blades will create a circle that is a third larger than London’s iconic London Eye …

Interestingly, when placed in their offshore positions the three blades will create a circle that is a third larger than London’s iconic London Eye.

As Alexis Crama, the Offshore VP of LM Wind happily pointed out: ‘If it is important to be the first and the largest … then we are very proud of that’.

The record comes at a time when LM Wind is in the process of being sold to GE Renewable Energy.
