Not A Normal Delivery Job? Five Days On Fred Olsen Windcarrier ships Brave Tern and Bold Tern?

A fabulous film from Fred Olsen Windcarrier which shows a segment of the transport and installation of 75 Areva 5 Mw turbines at the Global Tech I offshore wind farm in the North Sea off the coast of Germany.

The film shows, over a typical five day period onboard the Fred Olsen Windcarrier Brave Tern, the process of taking the towers and nacelles out to sea for installation at the offshore wind farm.

This is then followed by a similar five day period onboard the Fred Olsen Windcarrier Bold Tern as it installs the rotor stars.

The film shows just how organised, tough and disciplined the installation teams need to be and how heavily focused everyone is in ensuring that the wind turbines are erected safely.

one mistake could lead to the death or injury of the guys below …

No bromance going on here for these guys, but you have to be impressed with the incredibly calm manner in which they undertake their work. In particular listen to Karl McGrath, the Lift Supervisor, mention in an almost deadpan manner that ‘we have to be very cautious about the wind direction’ as though he was talking about trying to kick a rugby ball – when actually he’s talking about lifting massive pieces of steel from a ship in the sea to an exact point many metres high – and one mistake could lead to the death or injury of the guys below.
